The informative Telenoticias On August 2, de 3Cat dedicated a report to the growth of energy storage projects in Catalonia, a community that leads the country in the development of this type of facilities.
The reportage, titled “Catalonia, leader in the country in energy storage projects” and available in the Vector Energy YouTube channel With Spanish subtitles, it analyzes the strategic role of battery-powered energy storage systems — known as BESS — in the evolution of the energy model.
The growing deployment of renewable energy poses new challenges related to managing a variable generation. BESS systems allow for energy storage to be used when it is most needed, facilitating greater integration of renewable energy sources and providing flexibility and stability to the electrical system.
During the report, Salvador Salat, co-president of UNEFCAT, and Ivan Olivares, CEO of Vector Energy, analyze the recent boom in energy storage projects in Catalonia and the opportunities that this technology opens up for the electricity system and for companies.
The objective of the Spanish Government's National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) for 2030 envisages 12,500 MW of installed batteries, although only 221 MW have been installed as of May 2026, mainly in Castilla-La Mancha, the Basque Country and Extremadura. Technological evolution, the growth of renewable energy sources and the need for a more efficient and resilient supply are driving interest in these solutions.
The reportage also shows the practical application of energy storage in FRIME, a company specialized in the food sector.
Salvador Ramon, president of FRIME, and Josep Mercader, head of its technical office, explain the reasons that have led the company to opt for the installation of BESS systems. SUNVEC Storage in an industrial environment, as well as the expected benefits.
The energy storage project in FRIME supplied by Vector Energy, in figures:
⚡ SUNVEC Titan 500 kW / 1 MWh, designed and manufactured in Barcelona
🔋 Strengthens the operational continuity and energy resilience of the plant
📈 450 kW committed in active demand response via aggregator: the battery not only saves money, it generates market revenue
The project has involved the participation of Grupo Savia as a key partner for the integration of the solution.
Among the main advantages of incorporating battery storage in an industrial plant, the leaders of FRIME highlight:
In sectors such as food production, where the continuity of production processes and refrigeration facilities is essential, having a more stable and flexible energy system represents an operational advantage that is particularly relevant.
Vector Energy’s participation in this report highlights our commitment to developing and implementing BESS solutions tailored to the real needs of the industry.
Energy storage is no longer just a technology of the future. It is a tool that allows companies to improve their efficiency, strengthen the security of their processes, and move towards a more competitive, flexible, and sustainable energy model.
