What is a magnetotherm?

A thermomagnetic switch is a protection device designed to automatically open electrical circuits when overloads occur, whether it be overloads or short circuits. Its main function is to protect both the electrical installation and its receivers.

ANATOMY OF A MAGNETOTHERMIC

· MANUFACTURER'S NAME; identifies the manufacturer that designed, tested, and guarantees the performance of the product.

· MODEL; It allows identifying the specific technical characteristics of the model through the catalog.

· NOMINAL OPERATIONAL STRESS (EU); Usable tension for which it has been designed

· COURTSHIP POWER; Maximum short-circuit current that can be safely interrupted

· SHOT CURVE (B,C,D); Graph showing the firing time of the magnetotermic device as a function of the intensity that passes through it. NOMINAL CURRENT (In); Maximum current that the magnetotermic can withstand continuously without sparking (at a reference temperature)

· VISUAL STATE INDICATOR (ON U OFF)

· OPERATIONAL SYMBOL; illustrates the working mechanism. It is a visual representation

· COMPLIANCE REGULATIONS; Verifies that it complies with international product standards regarding construction and performance testing. IEC 60898-1 (Residential Use) IEC 60947-2 (Industrial Use)

Which curve to choose?

The choice of the switch curve depends on the type of load and the protection needs. For example, some types of loads generate high starting currents, which could cause unwanted spikes if the correct curve is not selected…

· CURVA B

  • Between 3 In a 5 In Suitable for the protection of generators and long cable lengths

· CURVA C

  • Between 5 In a 10 Suitable for the protection of residential facilities, power outlets, lighting fixtures and general uses.
They are the most used ones.

· CURVA D

  • Between 10 In a 20 Suitable for the protection of loads with high starting currents (motors or transformers)
